Rock Rapids, Iowa -- Wilma “Billie” Anderson, age 88, of Rock Rapids, died Saturday November 24, 2012, at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Reverend Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Monday, November 26th from 5-7 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.
Wilma “Billie” Delorus Anderson was born to Walter and Stella (Swenson) Whitehead on November 18, 1924 in Larchwood, Iowa. She grew up in the Inwood and Rock Rapids area and attended school in Inwood.
On September 3, 1943, she was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Anderson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Three children were born to their union: Micheal, Steven, and Becky Jo.
Bob and Billie farmed for many years after their marriage, retiring in 1971 and moving to Rock Rapids. They spent winters together in California and Arizona until Bob’s accidental death on October 11, 2002; she has continued to do this on her own since. Billie worked for Dr. N. Getman for several years, at Row’s Department Store for 23 years, and doing demonstrations at Hy Vee for nine years after retirement.
She enjoyed doing work for her church, having taught Sunday school, served on the Altar Guild, Sunshine Committee, Mission Action, and on the Memorial Committee. Her hobbies were sewing, reading, playing cards and working on her flowers.
Billie is survived by two sons, Mike (Carla) of Rock Valley, and Steve (Deb) of Rock Rapids, and one daughter, Becky (Steve) Boone of Scottsdale, Arizona. There are five grandchildren, Blake Anderson of Rock Valley, Ted Boone of Phoenix, Arizona, Tami Christian of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Beighley Boone of Scottsdale, Arizona; and three great-grandchildren, Daryk, Draven, and Montana Boone. She has one living sister, Shirley Matzen of Rapid City, So. Dak.; a sister-in-law, Mary Anderson of Vancouver, Washington; plus many nieces and nephews.
Billie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob; her parents, Walter and Stella Whitehead; one grandson, Chad Anderson; one brother, Walter Whithead Jr.; and two sisters, Lenette Matzen and Harriet Lane.
