Lorenz "Larry Schubert

(July 28, 1932 - November 26, 2012)

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Lorenz “Larry” Schubert, age 80 of Rock Rapids, died on Monday, November 26, 2012 at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 1st at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Mark Hansen officiating.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Friday, November 30th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Lorenz “Larry” Ernest Schubert was born on July 28, 1932 in Lester, Iowa, the son of Elvin W. and Katherine (LaFrenz) Schubert. He was raised in Lester and attended and graduated from Lester High School in 1950. On February 27, 1951 Larry entered the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War from 1951 and received his honorable discharged on February 19, 1954. He returned home and lived in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

He worked for JC Penney Store and was united in marriage to Doris Geick on November 3, 1956. Larry began working at Lyon County Court House as the Assistant County Engineer, retiring in 1995. After retirement Larry stayed busy driving his wife Doris, to her appointments and community activities. On June 13, 2010, Larry’s wife of 53 years died after an extended illness.

Larry was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Rock Rapids, Van Anne-Fields Post No. 6960 VFW and Rex Strait Post No. 103 American Legion, both of Rock Rapids. Larry enjoyed spending time in his yard and afternoon coffee with the boys.

In October of 2012 Larry moved to an assisted living home in Clarinda, IA, to be near family. This past Monday, November 26, 2012 Larry died at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center at the age of 80.

He is survived by two children, Kim Knapek of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Kent (Becky) Schubert of Shenandoah, Iowa; five grandchildren, Megan (Kirk) Skaggs and their children, Hunter and Henry, all of Omaha, Nebraska; Alec Knapek of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jake, Jordan and Jamie Schubert of Pella, Iowa; two brothers, Merlyn “Moe” (Margaret) Schubert of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Donald “Dutch” (Marcy) Schubert of Brandon, So. Dak.; one sister, Aletha “Tootie” (Bob) Sensanbaugh of Sioux City, Iowa; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Katherine Schubert; his wife, Doris Schubert; and a nephew, Michael Schubert.
