Rock Rapids, Iowa - Rena Ter Wee, 69, of Rock Rapids, and formerly of Inwood, Iowa, died Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre at Rock Rapids.
Visitation will be Wednesday with the family present 6-7 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Inwood. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church at Inwood. Burial will be at the Richland Cemetery, Inwood. Rev. Bill Donkersloot will be officiating.
Rena Ter Wee was born October 28, 1937 southwest of Inwood, Iowa, the daughter of Garret and Jessie (Brouwer) Ter Wee. She attended country school for a short time and also a special needs school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Rena lived on the farm with the rest of the family until 1989, when she moved into Inwood with her mother.
In the spring of 1996, Rena moved with her mother to an apartment in Hills, Minnesota. In September of that same year, her mom fell and broke her hip. The decision was made at that time for Rena and her mom to enter a nursing home so her mother could recuperate. They became residents of the Rock Rapids Health Care Centre and shared a room together.
In September of 1997, Rena had open heart surgery to repair a hole in her heart. After her mother died in 1999, Rena remained a resident at the nursing home. Rena enjoyed being with her family, loved to sing, and enjoyed animals, especially puppies. She enjoyed holding and rocking babies. She spent many hours looking at pictures in books and magazines and filled many notebooks copying her name or what ever was written at the top of the page. Rena had a sense of humor that will always bring back "precious memories."
Rena's relatives include brothers: Jasper (Karen) Ter Wee, Henry (Minerva) Ter Wee, all of Inwood, Peter (Mickey) Ter Wee and Jerry (Mary) Ter Wee all of Larchwood, Iowa; sister, Betty (James) Leuthold of Magnolia, Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Gerald Menholt of Harrisburg, South Dakota; 28 nieces and nephews; an aunt, Dorothy Ter Wee of Canton, South Dakota; an uncle, Merle Summers of Lincoln, Nebraska; many cousins; many friends who worked at the Rock Rapids Health Care Centre and cared for Rena the past 11 years.
Rena was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: John, Garret Jr., Wallace and an infant brother; a sister, Jennie Menholt; and a nephew, James Ter Wee.
