Obituary:

Doon, Iowa - Bill Niemeyer, 80, of Doon, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at the Valley Manor, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Saturday at the First Reformed Church, Doon, Iowa. Burial at Hillside Cemetery, Doon. Rev. Don Baker will be officiating. Visitation with family will be 6:30- 8:30 pm Friday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

William "Bill" Niemeyer was born April 16, 1927 to Walter and Hendrika (Van Grootheest) Niemeyer in Montpelier, North Dakota. Their family moved to Fairview, Iowa in 1931. They lived on various other farms in the area before settling on the family farm on the S.E. edge of Doon. Bill was united in marriage to Hester Otten on March 16, 1951 in Doon. They remained on the family farm for the duration of their marriage. Hester passed away on September 3, 1997. Bill was united in marriage to Clarretta (Risseeuw) De Groot on December 29, 1999. Bill's retirement years were spent wintering in Texas. He enjoyed singing in several quartets, the Church Choir and recently with the Senior Saints. He also enjoyed camping and collecting toy tractors.

Bill is survived by his wife, Clarretta of Doon; four daughters: Carla (Verlyn) Netten of Orange City, Iowa, Lorinda (Mike) Kats of Doon, Rhonda (Bob) Netten of Boyden, Iowa, Debra (Glenn) Van Bemmel of Doon; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gerrit (Helene) Niemeyer of Doon, Henry (Samantha) Niemeyer of George, Iowa; two sisters: Grace (Bill) Keizer and Theo (Dick) Keizer all of Doon; sister-in-law, Tressa (Nick) Bloemendaal of Doon; and Claretta's family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hester; grandsons: Keith Mulder and Caleb Netten; granddaughter, Christy Mulder; great-granddaughter, Belle Van Bemmel.
