Obituary: Doon, IA: Arnold Van Engen, 75, of Doon, died Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Sanford Heart Hospital, in Sioux Falls, SD of cardic arrest, just two days short of his transplated kidney’s 15th birthday. A funeral Service will be 1:30 pm Monday, October 29, 2012 at United Reformed Church at Doon with Rev. Simon Lievart officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Doon. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present 2-4 pm at Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley.

Arnold “Arnie” was born December 26, 1936 at Doon, Iowa, son of Garrie and Effie (Mulder) Van Engen. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1955 to October 1957. Arnie married Karolyn Feikema on September 19, 1958 at Inwood, Iowa. Together they lived near Doon where Arnie farmed. Arnie loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, trapping, riding horse or his Harley. He enjoyed working with his model trains, was a history buff (including WW II), but most of all, enjoyed being with his kids and grandkids.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Karolyn; daughter, Diane (Dave) Vande Berg of Sioux Center, IA; son, Scott (Pam) Van Engen of Doon; grandchildren, Zachary and Kole Van Engen, and Joylyn Vande Berg; and brother Elroy (Laura) Van Engen of Doon.

Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, Garrie and Effie Van Engen; and brothers, Earl Van Engen and Gerald Van Engen.
