Rock Rapids, Iowa - Nellie Berg, age 96 of Rock Rapids, died on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rock Rapids.

Family will gather at Jurrens Funeral Home Friday morning at 10:30 and will process to Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids at 11:00 a.m. for a private graveside service.

Nellie Berg was born May 20, 1916 in Alvord, Iowa to Bos and Margjie (Van Den Toorn) de Wit. She was raised in the Steen, Minnesota, area and attended country school.

On March 2, 1936 she was united in marriage to Peter Berg. The couple made their home in rural Rock Rapids. Nellie was a home maker along with helping her husband run the family farm. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a "Gold Star Mother". She also enjoyed playing cards. Nellie’s husband Peter passed away on September 16, 1974.

This past Monday, October 22, 2012, Nellie slipped away quietly at Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids. She was 96 years of age.

She is survived by three daughters, Marjorie (James) Wells of Rock Rapids, Barbara (Jack) Hoogeveen of Rock Rapids and Nancy Onerheim of Rock Rapids; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Adrianna Van Beek of Rock Valley, IA; nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Peter; son, Harold Peter Berg who died in Viet Nam on March 3, 1969; son-in-law, Dan Onerheim; sister, Margaret Iwen; and brother, John de Wit.
