Ida DeBeer, age 97 of Ellsworth, Minnesota, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Bethel Reformed Church, Little Rock, IA with Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Reformed Church Cemetery.
Ida DeBeer was born January 8, 1915 near George, Iowa the daughter of Diedrich and Aleida (Meyer) Groen. She was raised in the Ellsworth area. As a young girl she helped her parents on the farm and received her education at Midland Township country school.
On January 27, 1937 she was united in marriage to Otto DeBeer at the Bethel Reformed church parsonage. To this union four children were born. The couple lived most of their lives on the family farm just south of Ellsworth. Tragically they lost one of their sons, Dennis, in an auto accident in 1971.
She worked at Parkview Manor in Ellsworth for 10 years first as a CNA and then as cook. Ida loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed playing cards with her siblings. She also enjoyed music, sewing and was known as an amazing cook. Her grandchildren will remember her as a wonderful story teller. She also made many family members quilts. Ida was a member of Bethel Reformed Church where she enjoyed church activities. Her faith was very important to Ida.
In 1984 she lost her husband Otto but remained in their home in Ellsworth until she entered Parkview Manor in 2004. This past Tuesday, Ida died at the age of 97. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Arlene DeBeer of Luverne, MN; son, Wendell (Millie) DeBeer of George, Iowa; and daughter, Aloyse (Larry) Heikes of Ellsworth, Minnesota; grandchildren, Gwen (Larry) Meester of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Michelle (Scott) Timmer of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Becky (Mark) Stueven of George, Iowa, Rachel Heikes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Angie Heikes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Sadena Nagel of Ellsworth, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Audrey DeBeer of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and many extended family and friends.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents; husband Otto; son, Dennis DeBeer; siblings, John Groen, Aalke Dreesen, Hattie Frey, Zena Hoting, Grace Walters, Benhard Groen, Gertie Groen, Dick Groen, Orvel Groen, Marie Van Anken, George Groen, and Carl Groen.
