Grant Kemp

Grant Kemp, 76, of Alaska died Wednesday, January 1, 1997, at Columbia Alaska Regional Hospital.

Mr. Kemp was born October 15, 1920, in Rock Rapids. He moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., and graduated from St. Joseph Cathedral High School in 1940.

He moved to Alaska in 1941. He served in the army from 1943-1946.

He was employed by McLaughlin Inc., in Valdez, Alaska, until 1952, when he moved to Southern California and worked as an operating engineer. He also owned and operated a clothing store in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He moved back to Alaska in 1976 where he worked on the trans-Alaska pipeline, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include one son, Grant of Ojai, Calif.; one daughter, Claudia Schultz of Ventura, Calif.; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Warren of Sioux Falls and Thomas of Nevada, and three sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Sioux Falls and Linda Berner and Mary
