Juanita "Nita" Hughes, 89, of Rock Rapids died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services were Saturday at Congregational United Church of Christ, Rock Rapids, with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee.

Juanita Bidwell was born June 26, 1911, at Niles, Mich., the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Horner) Bidwell. After graduating from Niles High School, she worked at JCPenney's department store in Niles.

On March 29, 1931, she married Howard Hobson in Niles. They lived in Niles before moving to Cherokee. In 1946, they moved Rock Rapids and owned Lyon County Abstract Co. many years. During their retired years, they wintered in Florida.

Her husband died March 10, 1980.

She taught Sunday School many years, was in charge of cradle roll and a member of Mayflower Guild at United Congregational United Church of Christ and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include one son, Dr. H. Dean of Slayton, Minn.; three grandsons; three greatgrandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren and one sister, Florence Petty of Wabash, Ind.
