Many people in the community were shocked at the sudden death of Mrs. Willard Van Hoorn last Thursday, August 31, at the Luverne hospital. She died from injuries received in a most tragic auto accident the previous Sunday, in which her father, Mr. Chris DeGroot, Jr., was killed instantly. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 4, 1950, at the Ebenezer Lawn Cemetery.

Dorothy Van Hoorn, daughter of Mrs. Christian DeGroot, was born at George, Iowa March 12, 1929. She spent her entire life in this community. She attended the George high school and grade school.

On September 21, 1949, she was married to Willard Van Hoorn, of George, Iowa. Dorothy was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian church. From childhood she was active in church work, and was always faithful in attendance at the regular services, the Christian endeavor and Sunday school, also choir. She was a co-inaugurator of the Young Married Group.

For seven years she worked at the local Bakery, part-time while in school and full time for several years.
Dorothy had a cheerful disposition. She was popular with the young and old. She a good wife and the few months of their married life were very happy.

A child, Robert John, was born to her at the hospital, but did not live.

She leaves to mourn her untimely death, her husband, Mr. Willard Van Horn, a daughter, Susan Elaine, by a previous marriage, her mother, Mrs. Lena DeGroot, two sisters, Gladys and Evelyn and one brother, Harold. A large number of relatives and friends will miss her in early death.
