The funeral took place in the First Baptist church on Monday, October 16. Rev. J. J. Renz assisted by Rev. J. Jordan, had charge of the services. Interment was in the First Baptist church cemetery.

Gerhard Arends was born at Kreis Wiener, Eastfriesen, Germany on December 16, 1871. In his yearly youth he migrated to this country, where he engaged in farming. In June 1898, he enlisted in the U. S. Army during the Spanish-American War and on November 1 of that same year he was honorably discharged. He returned to his former vocation and farmed until 1932, when he retired to the town of Little Rock, Iowa.

Mr. Arends was saved for many years and loved his Lord. On August 24, 1919, he was scripturally baptized and became a member of the First Baptist church of rural George, Iowa. He remained a faithful member unto his end.

In 1939 his health began to fail but he rallied again until the winter of 1949 to 1950, when his condition became alarming. This past summer, Mr. Arends entered the Veterans hospital in Sioux Falls, where he underwent three operations, after which we all hoped he would recover fully. But on October 12, 1950, he fell asleep in the Lord.

He leaves to mourn his departure: three brothers, Henry, of Pipestone, Minn.; John, of Ellsworth, Minn.; and George, of Little Rock, Iowa, and many other friends. He reached the age of 78 years, 9 months and 26 days. We are confident that he now sees what he here believed.
