Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran church in George at 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon of this week, for Mrs. Charles Blum, of Waverly, S. Dak., who was instantly killed in a car accident on Monday. Mrs. Blum is the mother of Mrs. John Bechler, Jr., of George. Morning services will be held in the Lutheran church at LaBolt, S. Dak., and interment will be made here.

Mrs. Alkie Blum, 57, was killed instantly on Monday, when the dual wheels of a farm truck passed over her in a freak accident near Waverly, S. Dak.

Mrs. Blum was riding with her husband, Charlie Blum, when a bumper brace came loose on their car and struck either in the roadbed or through one of the front wheels, deputy sheriff Cliff England said.

The truck swerved into one ditch, came up on the road and cut across into the other ditch, England said.
The door on Mrs. Blum’s side flew open and she fell out of the truck and beneath the rear wheels. She died almost instantly, Blum was not injured.

The truck did not turn over and was not damaged.

Blum, Alkie (Rippentrop) 1893-1950

Mrs. Charley Blum, Waverly, S. Dak., passed away on Monday morning, October 23, 1950, at 8:30 a.m.

Miss Alkie Rippentrop, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cort Rippentrop, was born at Lakota, Iowa on May 10, 1893. She ws baptized into the Christian faith. She was united in marriage to Mr. Charley Blum on June 13, 1912, at Lakota, Iowa. They lived near George, Iowa until 1936, when they moved to LaBolt, S. Dak., living there until 1947, when they moved to their farm two miles east of Waverly, S. Dak.

Mrs Blum is survived by four daughters and three sons. Cora Blum, Ashton, Iowa: Mrs. Sadie (Harry) Leu, Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Mrs. Ida (John) Bechler, George, Iowa; Carl Blum, Milbank, S. Dak.; Mrs. Grace (Merrill) Hinders, Sibley, Iowa; Mrs. Alkie (Ralph) Wellnitz, Reville, S. Dak.;and Benhard Blum, Milbank, S. Dak.

She is also survived by twenty grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Grace (Herman) Jensen, Buffalo center, Iowa; and five brothers: Cory, John, Ben, Albert, and Robert Rippenthorp. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, who died in infancy.

Mrs Charley Blum passed away at the age of 57 years, 5 months, and 13 days.
