Charles Grotewold, 74, retired business man of Lyon county passed away suddenly on Sunday morning of a heart attack. Mr. Grotewold had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Homer Grotewold Sr., of Georges, for a number of years. He had been a resident of George since 1946 and during that time had gained many friends in the community.

Services will be held Thursday at 12:30 from the Funeral Home in George, with Rev. S. Roseler in charge, and at 2:30 at the community church in Larchwood with the Rev. Gordon Riffle officiating. Interment will be at Larchwood.

Charles Grotewold was born in Fayette County, June 15, 1876, and passed away February 25, 1951, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 10 days.

He was the son of Henry and Salome Grotewold, one of fourteen children; nine of whom have proceeded him in death. Three brothers and one sister survive. William of Sloan, Ia., Frank and Ernest, of Larchwood, and Louise, of Jasper, Minn.

When Charles was 5 years of age, the family moved to Larchwood, where he lived until 1946; when he made his home at George, Ia.

“Uncle Charley” as everyone knew him, always took an active interest in community affairs, was an ardent supporter of the church and at the time of his death was an honorary member of the Larchwood Fire Department.

He leaves to mourn a great many relatives and a host of friends.
