Darlene Folkens, 75, of Lester died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Rock Rapids Health Centre following a lengthy illness.

Services were Friday at United Methodist Church, Lester, with interment in Hillside Cemetery.

Darlene Kuhl was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Sioux County, the daughter of George and Frances (Popma) Kuhl. She grew up and attended schools near Sioux Center and Doon.

On Aug. 19, 1948, she married Arend Folkens in Doon. They lived near Rock Rapids and Luverne, Minn., before moving to Lester in 1955. For over 20 years, the couple traveled to Texas or Arizona during the winter.

She became a resident of Rock Rapids Health Centre Jan. 24, 2003.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, John of Lester and Steve of Larchwood; two daughters, Mrs. Lynn (Elsie) Anderson of Hudson, S.D., and Mrs. Greg (Lori) Popkes of Rock Rapids; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl of Minneapolis, Minn., and Leo of Madison, S.D., and one sister, Clara Ann Olson of Steen, Minn.
