Verna Kruse, 84, of Inwood died Monday, April 28, 2003, at Fellowship Village, Inwood.

Services were Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Inwood, with interment in Richland Cemetery.

Verna Syverud was born May 1, 1918, near Inwood, the daughter of Edwin and Trena (Sorenson) Syverud. She graduated from Inwood High School in 1936 and attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.

On Sept. 8, 1938, she married Herman Kruse in Canton, S.D. They farmed north of Inwood 62 years. She became a resident of Fellowship Village Oct. 29, 2001.

At Bethlehem Lutheran Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of ELCW.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Jon of Inwood; two daughters, Mrs. Andy (Karen) Austrums of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Harley (Mary) Franken of Cumming, Ga.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Erwin and Merle, and two sisters, Nina Syverud and Blance Brown.
