Adolph George Berg was born October 9, 1909 in rural Rock Rapids, IA, the son of Leonard and Metta (Meyer) Berg, Sr. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school near Rock Rapids. On August 1, 1931, he was united in marriage to Viola Dengler at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Following their marriage Adolph and Viola began farming near Rock Rapids and continued living on that farm for sixty-two years. Adolph loved farming and never really retired from his chosen profession. Even as he advanced in age Adolph continued to work in the fields as his family took over the operation of the farm. Throughout his life, Adolph also enjoyed his lawn work and gardening, especially raising cucumbers which many family members and friends used for making pickles. Adolph was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. where he was baptized, confirmed, married, and from that church will now be buried. On April 8, 1994 he became a resident of the Lyon Manor Care Center in Rock Rapids. Last Wednesday he died there at the age of eighty-four.
Surviving is his wife of sixty-two years, Viola Berg of Rock Rapids; and his three children, Harlan Berg and his wife, Hazel of Rock Rapids; Marlene Camilli and her husband, Wayne of Owatonna, MN; Carolyn Bauer and her husband, Daryl of Sioux Falls, SD; and a daughter-in-law, Delores Berg of Rock Rapids. Also surviving are his twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; along with a brother, Leonard Berg of Luverne, MN and a sister-in-law, Nellie Berg of Rock Rapids.
Preceding Adolph in death was his son, Dwaine Berg; a great-grandson, Nathan Smith; his parents; two prothers, Peter and Rudolph Berg; and four sisters, Laura Dengler, Louise Kahl, Velma Wenninghoff, and Amanda Berg.
