Marcus McGuire 1878-1959

Elderly man dies Tuesday night after being struck by automobile on dark street. Injuries slight, but succumbs to shock later.

Funeral services for Marcus McGuire, 81, who was struck by an automobile on 13th street here Tuesday night and who later died of shock, will be held Friday morning in St. Mary's church with Mgsr Paul McGuire, a brother, as officiating minister.

Herman Zwaak, driver of the car, and John Frembgen, son-in-law of the deceased, were driving at a slow rate of speed prepatory to stopping at the Frembgen home when the accident happened. Mr Zwaak apparently did not see the elderly man on the dark street and it is thought that the victim could not move out of the way in time to avoid being struck.

He suffered deep cuts over the eye and on his chin. The right front headlight of the Zwaak vehicle was broken by the impact.

He was taken by ambulance to the Sioux Center hospital where he died of what was described as shock about 9:35 the same evening.

Mr McGuire made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John Frembgen.

He was born September 15, 1878 at Rock Rapids.

He is survived by a son, Cecil of Rock Rapids, a daughter, Mrs. Frembgen and three brothers, Mgsr. Paul, William, both of Pierre, SD, and Leonard of Sioux City.

Burial will be in the Holy Name cemetery in Rock Rapids.
