Bertha Moberly-Wick, daughter of Chas. and Nancy Moberly, was born in Black Hawk county, Iowa, Nov. 11th, 1870, and died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1904, aged 33 years, 2 months and 10 days.

In October 1875 she moved with her parents to Mahaska county, Iowa. During her seventeenth year she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. was baptized and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Peoria, Ia. In the spring of l891 she removed with her parents to Lester, Iowa, and transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church here.

On December 21, 1893, she was married Henry A. Wick, since which time her home has been in or near Lester.

Four children have been born to Brother and Sister Wick, three of whom are living. two boys and the little girl only 7 days old. These with the father and the members of her own father’s family, six brothers and the father and mother are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother, sister and daughter.

In all of these capacities she has proved herself faithful and true, a devoted Christian ever manifesting in her life the real Christ spirit. With those of her own family is joined a large circle of friends who knew and valued her great worth and who blend their sorrows with those. Her faithfulness in the home was like that of Martha but with this she blended the peculiar devotion of Mary to her Savior. Truly she had chosen that good part.

Her last hours were especially bright. On Friday night those about the bedside thought the end had come. She seemed to be having a vision of the Spirit land. Her words were, “Mother I see the Savior now, he is holding out his arms to me.” The next day she told those in attendance of the beautiful vision of the night before that none could describe the beauty of the Heavenly land and said how she wished to go, but could not leave the husband and the children.

During Saturday and Saturday night she was fully in possession of her faculties and conversed freely with those about her. About 1:30 Sunday morning she began to sink again and at 10 minutes of two she passed to be with her Christ and with the two sisters and the baby boy who had gone before.

This was a Christian’s death. It gives us new hope of the life beyond. It gives us sorrow, but with it a new peace in this life.

During her last hours she asked that her former pastor. Rev. E. C. Richards, now of Pocahontas, be sent for to conduct the funeral services, this with all her other requests was faithfully carried out.
