CARSTON WINTER BURIED WEDNESDAY
Remains Were Brought Here From New York City, Where He Died Following Sun Stroke

Funeral services for Carston Winter, formerly of Rock Rapids, lately of New York City, were held Wednesday afternoon, August 9, 1928, at the North Lutheran church. In the absence of Rev. Mueller, Rev. Goeringer, of Hull, conducted the services. Interment was at the Hull Lutheran cemetery. Those who acted as pall bearers were Henry Borman, Chas. Borman, Henry Schoeneman, John Schroeder, Claus Aders and Chris Schubert.

Mr. Winter died suddenly at his home in New York City after being overcome by the heat on Aug. 3. His age was 64 years, 8 months and 3 days. The following obituary was given The Review by Mrs. Carston Winter and his family:

Carsten Winter was born Nov. 5, 1863, in Westersode, Hanover, Germany. His early life was spent in and around this vicinity.

In 1888 he was married to Adelheit Lafrenz. To them were born six children: Dietrich, Maria, Hinrich, Gustave, Johann and Catherina while the family resided in Germany. They all survive Mr. Winter, except Maria, who died in 1921.

In the fall of 1902 Mr. Winter came to America, settling in New York. He worked there until he was able to send for his family. Mrs. Winter and children arrived in America in the spring of 1903, and together they came to Lyon county, Iowa, making their home on a farm. After farming for about fifteen years, Mr. and Mrs. Winter retired from farm life and moved to Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa. A year later Mrs. Winter passed away.

In 1922 Mr. Winter went to Germany to visit relatives. There he met Sophia Van Bergen, whom he later married. To this union one daughter, Johanna, was born. With his wife and daughter, Mr. Winter again came to this country to make his home in New York, and it was here that he passed away.

Mr. Winter was baptized at an early age and later confirmed in the faith of Lutheran church. He ever remained faithful to his vows to the church and at the time he lived in this vicinity was an active member of the Lutheran church near Hull.

Mr. Winter is mourned by his widow and children, twenty grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
