John A. Roth, 76, a life-long resident of this community, passed away Thursday evening, August 2, 1951, after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held from the Roth home and from the Ebenezer Presbyterian church with Rev. H.A. Smidt officiating on Monday afternoon. Interment was made in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

John August Roth, son of Joseph A. and Anna Barbara Roth, nee Lillie, was born on August 26, 1874, in Dale Township, Lyon County, Iowa, where he was baptized in infancy. His entire life was spent in the vicinity of George, where, for many years he was engaged in farming. On October 7, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Kitchin. This union was blessed with one son, Joseph William. In March, 1920, they retired and moved into George.

After a lingering illness, Mr. Roth passed away very suddenly around 6 o’clock Thursday evening, reaching the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 7 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife; a son, Joseph; one granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Theresia Schmidt of George; and one brother, Frank of Spirit Lake, Iowa. Also other relatives and many friends.
