Mrs. May (Chadwick) Roth, 78, one of the long-time residents of this community passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, September 3, 1951. Mrs. Roth had been in poor health for some time suffering with heart trouble. She had been about her home as usual on Monday evening and after preparing her evening meal she suffered a severe heart attack. Medical aid was called but she passed away a short time later.

Mr. and Mrs. Roth farmed in this community for many years and after retiring from the farm made their home here. Mr. Roth passed away six years ago and since that time Mrs. Roth lived alone until she became ill.

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Earl (Lillie) Eberline and Mrs. Arthur (Pearl) Eberline of this community. Also two sisters: Mrs. Pearl Winch of George, Iowa; Mrs. Ade (Ethel) Rachuy of Rushmore, Minnesota; and three brothers: Les Chadwick of George, Iowa; Ralph Chadwick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and John Chadwick of Vancouver, Washington.

Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock and from the Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa on Thursday afternoon with Rev. H.A. Smidt and Rev. I.F. Hayenga officiating. Funeral arrangements are being made by the Vogelaar Funeral Service of George, Iowa.

Mrs. May Roth, daughter of Martin and Nancy Chadwick, nee Andrews, was born at Solitt, Illinois, near Chicago, on September 23, 1873. In 1883 the family came to Lyon County, Iowa, where the deceased taught school for a number of years. On November 24, 1892 she was united in marriage to Joe A. Roth. This union was blessed with two daughters. They lived on a farm south of George until 28 years ago, when they retired and moved into George. Mr. and Mrs. Roth were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on November 24, 1942.

On March 30, 1947 Mrs. Roth confessed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and joined the fellowship of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, where she was a charter member of the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society. She was also a charter member of the Women’s Relief Corps.

Mrs. Roth being the oldest of 10 children was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Joe and Howard, and one sister, Florence, who died in infancy. Also preceding her in death was her husband, who passed away on September 4, 1945.

Having been in poor health for some time, suffering with a heart ailment, Mrs. Roth passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday evening, October 1, 1951, attaining the age of 78 years and 8 days. She leaves to mourn, her two daughters: Mrs. Earl Eberline (Lillie) and Mrs. Arthur Eberline (Pearl), of George, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers John of Sheldon, Iowa; Ralph of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Leslie C. of George, Iowa; and two sisters, Mrs. G.B. Winch of George, Iowa and Mrs. A.E. Rachuy of Rushmore, Minnesota; and other relatives and many friends.

Those from out-of-town to attend funeral services for May Roth were: Mr. Ralph Chadwick, Mr. and Mrs. George Geunther of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Rachuy of Rushmore, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob DeVries and Arla of Worthington, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Rachuy, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rachuy of Hartley, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fie of Doon, Iowa; Henry Cornelius, Marion and Edwin Carpenter of Canton, South Dakota; Mr. Frank Roth, Mrs. Vernon Maytum and Frances of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Scmidt and children of Hadley, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pommier, Mr. and Mrs. George Reiter and daughter of Currie, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Frieswold of Lucon, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Kruger and daughter of Sibley, Iowa; Mrs. Jack Foster and daughter of San Leandro, California; Mrs. N. Walerias of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Mrs. John Wieman.
