George D. Schmidt, age 48, died at Sibley hospital on Thursday morning, September 13, 1951, after an illness of several months. Mr. Schmidt had been in poor health for a number of years and for the past several months had been bedfast.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Schmidt home just east of George, Iowa and from the Lyon County First Presbyterian church with Rev. M. H. Brower, officiating.

George was born on June 30, 1903, on a farm near George, the son of George and Meta Schmidt. He lived on the farm with his parents until November 5, 1925 when he was united in marriage to Jennie Esther Bruns of George, Iowa. The young couple moved to a farm near Rock Rapids, Iowa where they lived for three years. Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt then moved to Adrian, Minnesota, where they lived for nine years. They have made their home in George, Iowa for the past ten years. To this union was born one child, a daughter, Lavonne.

In 1910 Mr. Schmidt joined the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church. He served this church in the capacity of elder for three years. When his health permitted, he was a loyal and faithful member, not only in attendance but in service as well. Mr. Schmidt passed to his eternal home at the age of 48 years, 2 months and 13 days.

Those who mourn his passing are his wife Jennie; one daughter Lavonne; 2 brothers, Wiert of Dempster, South Dakota and Fred of Reading, Minnesota; 4 sisters, Mrs. Peter (Maria) Bruns and Mrs. Cornelius (Alice) Pals of George, Iowa; Mrs. Henry (Mattie) Konstant of Moline, Illinois; and Mrs. Harlan (Leona) Klaassen of Adrian, Minnesota; and his step-mother, Mrs. George W. Schmidt of George, Iowa, and a host of relatives and friends.

Those preceding him in death were two infant children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Schmidt, and one brother, John.

We cannot say, and we will not say

That he is dead—he is just away!

With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand,

He has wandered into an unknown land,

And left us dreaming how very fair

It needs must be, since he lingers there.

So think of him faring on, as dear

In the love of There as the love of Here;

Think of him still as the same, I say:

He is not dead—he is just away!
