Mrs. Earl B. Smith, of Glendale, California, a former resident of George, Iowa, passed away at a Glendale hospital Friday morning, November 30, 1951, after suffering a severe heart attack during the previous night, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Krause.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, in Grundy Center, Iowa, at the Ferre Chapel. Clergymen in charge of the service were Rev. F.J. Langenberg and Rev. G. Van Putten. Interment was in the family lot at Grundy Center.

Minnie Freese Smith was born May 1, 1886, at Holland, Iowa. Her girlhood days were spent in Pleasant Valley, near Grundy Center, Iowa. On October 27, 1907 she was united in marriage to Earl B. Smith, then a dental student at the University of Iowa. In 1910 they moved to George, Iowa, where Dr. Smith practiced dental surgery for forty years, and Dr. and Mrs. Smith became affectionately known to their many friends as “Doc and Min”. One daughter, Earlene, was born to this marriage.

Mrs. Smith was an ardent worker in church and civic affairs. She was a charter member and past president of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Ladies Aid and Missionary Society; Horsfall Relief Corps and George Woman’s Club. She also was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

After Dr. Smith’s retirement from business about a year and a half ago, they spent their summers at their cottage at Manhattan Beach and their winters in Glendale, California, with Mr. and Mrs. Krause.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband; her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Krause; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Poppenga of Wellsburg, Iowa; Mrs. Reka Koser and Mrs. Gen Beibesheimer, both of Grundy Center, Iowa; other relatives and many friends. “Min” who had endeared herself to young and old alike, will be missed by her many friends in this community.

Attending the funeral from George was: C.C. Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Hatch, Mrs. C.J. Fitzgerald, Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Manual, Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Locker, Mr. and Mrs. Hank Korthals and Ted Geerdes. Mrs. Carrie Marschall, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Creglow, and Bill Haan, all of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Mrs. Edith Bender of Spencer, Iowa, also attended.
