Obituary:
Palmer was born September 19, 1914 to Eilert and Sophia Madland at home in Lyon County, Iowa, and passed away July 16, 2009 in Vancouver, Washington.

He grew up in rural Iowa working on the family farm. In 1952 he married his wife of 57 years, Grace Hickok. In 1968 the family left Iowa and settled in Santa Barbara, California, where he worked at the University of Santa Barbara. He and Grace moved to Vancouver, Washington in later years to be closer to family.

His lifelong love of music led him to join the Norse Glee Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the ELKS Drum & Bugle Corp in Santa Barbara, California.

He is survived by his wife Grace; daughters, Barbara Wagner (John) of Woodland, WA; Nancy Boomgarden (Randy) of Savanna, IL; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Ernest Madland of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by four sisters.

Funeral Service and Burial were at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Inwood, Iowa.
