Lawrence Sauer, age 76 died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Mass of Christian Burial was june June 1st at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with burial at Larchwood Cemetery with Full Military Rites by the Flessner American Legion, Post No. 561 of Larchwood.

Lawrence George Sauer was born November 25, 1932 in Elkton, South Dakota, the son of John and Agnes (Aurit) Sauer. As a young school boy Larry and his family moved to a farm N.W. of Larchwood, Iowa. He attended St. Mary’s School. On April 7, 1953 Larry entered the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 7, 1955 and returned home. He worked various jobs in the Midwest. He worked as a boiler engineer for Nevenis Dry Cleaners in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On November 25, 1972 Larry married Harriet “Dolly” Goodwin. The couple lived in Wilmington, California from 1973 to 1978, where Larry and his brother Ed were partners in an auto sales and wrecking company. In 1978, they returned to Minnesota, where they remained for thirty years. Larry owned and operated a auto detailing business and managed the concessions for the Brooklyn Park Baseball Association. In 2006, Larry and Dolly moved to Larchwood, Iowa.

Larry loved gardening and working in the yard. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling and tinkering with things in his garage.

This past Wednesday, May 28, 2009 Larry died unexpectedly at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 76.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Harriet “Dolly” Sauer; daughter, Lynnette Sauer (fiancé, Troy Olson) and her children, Steven, Jessica, and Beau; son, Mark (wife, Paula) Sauer and their children, Judy and Melissa; daughter, Michele (husband, Keith) Smith, and their children, Samantha and Connor; son, Scott Sauer, Son, Larry (wife, Tammy) Sauer, and their child, Isaiah; son Bryan (Fiance, Joan Goodwin) Sauer, and his children, Ashley and Heather; son, Chris (wife, Deva) Sauer, and their children, Tyler and Victoria; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cecilia (husband, Leo) Rice and Mary (husband, Don) Giles; three brothers, Edward Sauer, Anthony Sauer and Clarence (wife, Lanel) Sauer; one sister-in-law, Marge Sauer; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded by his parents, John and Agnes Sauer; and one brother, John Sauer.
