Mearl Lee Kruger, age 83 of George, IA, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Sanford Sheldon Hospital in Sheldon, IA. Funeral services were held Monday, June 1st at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA with burial in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George.

Mearl Lee Kruger was born May 30, 1925, at George, IA the son of John and Etta (Janssen) Kruger. Mearl grew up on the farm and when Mearl was about ten his father was struck by lightning. He and his family later moved into George and Mearl attended George Elementary and George High School. After he completed his education he farmed, worked at Siebring Manufacturing and later sold feed for Moorman Feed.

From 1975 until 1977, Mearl owned and operated Mearl’s Rec. in George. Mearl was united in marriage to Aleida Walters on March 8, 1945 at George, IA. They made their home in George where they raised their family. Mearl and Aleida were blessed with eight children. During Mearl’s free time he enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt. He also kept a large garden for many years and many of his children remember helping in the garden. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George. Mearl had a great sense of humor and all of his family and friends found that endearing. In October of 2007, Mearl became a resident of the Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon, Iowa. This past Wednesday morning, May 27, 2009, Mearl died at the Sanford Sheldon Hospital at the age of eighty-three.

He is survived by his wife, Aleida of Sheldon; his children, Joyce Feldman of Hills, Minnesota; Gloria (Daryl) Kruse of George, Iowa; Wanda (Rocky) Schlichter of George, Iowa; LaDonne (Herman) Stubbe of Inwood, Iowa; Merwin (Kathy) Kruger of Sheldon, Iowa; Clifford (Tammy) Kruger of George, Iowa; Duane (Kim) Kruger of Bremerton, Washington; and Ivan (Karen) Kruger of Moses Lake, Washington; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Leona) Kruger of George, Iowa and Arvin (Gerry) DeBerg of Greenville, Michigan; and one sister, Katherine (Marvin) Hanson of Greenville, Michigan; and his mother-in-law, Grace Walters of Hills, Michigan.

Mearl was preceded in death by his parents, John and Etta; infant grandson, Aaron Lee; son-in-law, Larry Feldman; brothers, Ira, John, Francis and an infant brother; sisters, Hazel and Elva.
