Obituary: INWOOD, IOWA- OEPKE NIEMEYER, 92 of Inwood, Iowa died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral Service was held. Friday at the First Reformed Church in Inwood with burial in the Richland Cemetery.

Oepke Niemeyer was born January 26, 1916 southeast of Inwood, Iowa, the son of Gerrit and Johanna (DeVries) Niemeyer. He married Henrietta Zomermaand on February 9, 1939 at Rock Valley, Iowa. The couple farmed southeast of Inwood until moving into town in the fall of 1988.

Oepke was a member, and past elder and deacon of the First Reformed Church in Inwood. He enjoyed woodworking, travelling, and spending many winters in California visiting with family.

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; 3 sons, Gerrit and wife Pat of Inwood, Edwin and wife Marilyn of Sioux City, and Harold and wife Lorraine of Inwood; son-in-law, Robert Jacobsma of Hartford, South Dakota; daughter-in-law, Marty Niemeyer of Inwood; 3 sisters-in-law, Elsie Niemeyer of Canton, South Dakota, Rena Niemeyer of Inwood, and Lynn Niemeyer of Spencer, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

Oepke was preceded in death by a son, Bernard “Bernie”; daughter, Johanna “Joann” Jacobsma; 4 brothers, Henry, Ell, Bernard, and Thomas in infancy; 2 grandchildren, Odean Niemeyer and Patrick Niemeyer; and 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew Niemeyer and Benjamin Niemeyer.
