Obituary: Hull, IA - Syrus Bakker, 80, formerly of Alvord, Iowa, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Orange City Area Health Center, Orange City, Iowa. Funeral service was held Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley, Iowa with burial at Valley View Cemetery.

Syrus Bakker was born on January 21, 1929 to Pete and Ada (Tilstra) Bakker in Harrisburg, South Dakota. During his childhood, Syrus grew up in South Dakota, New Jersey and then in Alvord, Iowa. Later in life he lived in Rock Rapids, Iowa and Orange City, Iowa at Hope Haven RTC. Syrus moved to Pleasant Acres Nursing Home, Hull, Iowa on November 20, 2002.

Syrus is survived by two brothers: Raymond (Bertha) Bakker and Gerrit (Joyce) Bakker all of Rock Valley, Iowa; two sisters: Katheron (George) Middle of Rock Valley, Iowa and Anna (Donald) Tiedeman of Hull, Iowa; nine nephews and nine nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one niece and one nephew.
