Alta Hecht, 77, of Larchwood died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Rapids.

Memorial services were Monday at United Church of Christ, Larchwood, with interment in Larchwood Cemetery.

Alta Gluenkin was born Jan. 13, 1925, at Willow Lake, S.D., the daughter of Albert and Josie (Van Ningen) Gluenkin. She grew up and attended school in various South Dakota communities. She worked at Terry's Dry Cleaning in Sioux Falls, S.D.
In 1947 she married Donald Hecht. They lived in Lester until moving to a farm near Larchwood in the late 1950s. Eventually they moved into Larchwood.

Her husband died in 1975. She continued living in Larchwood and served as secretary for United Church of Christ several years. She became a resident of Lyon Manor Sept. 12, 2002.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Ken (Ann) Herrboldt of Menno, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son, Lynn.
