John Van Wyhe, 79, of Brandon, S.D., died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services were Monday at Valley Springs Reformed Church, Valley Springs, with interment in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Mr. Van Wyhe was born Jan. 24, 1923, at Lester, the son of Henry and Christina (Berghuis) Van Wyhe. He attended school near Lester and served in the army from January 1945 to August 1946.
On Nov. 26, 1946, he married Grace Doppenberg at Edgerton, Minn. They farmed northwest of Hills, Minn., until moving to Valley Springs in 1987. In September 1999 he moved to Helping Hands Assisted Living in Brandon.

He served on the Valley Springs Elevator and Martin Township boards several years and was a member of Valley Springs American Legion. He served as an elder and deacon at Valley Springs Reformed Church.

Survivors include one son, Jerold of Crete, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Karen) Ackerman of Valley Springs; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Henry and Chris.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, one daughter, five brothers and one sister.
