Fred Hoppe Jr., 58, of Rock Rapids died unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital, Rock Rapids.
Services were Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.
Mr. Hoppe was born Oct. 18, 1944, in Rock Rapids, the son of Fred Sr. and Margaret (Baker) Hoppe. He grew up near Rock Rapids and graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1962. He then worked construction for C.A. Peterson and Son in Rock Rapids. He took over farming the family farm in 1964. In 1965, he joined the national guard and served six years with the unit in Luverne, Minn.
On June 22, 1969, he married Linda Dunn in Rock Rapids. They lived on the Hoppe farm, except for five years when they lived in Edna.
He served on the Farmers Co-op Exchange Elevator board, serving a term as president and was a member of Rex Strait Post #103 American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Bryan (Lari) Seaver and Amanda Hoppe, both of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mrs. Ben (Jennifer) Retterath of Grafton, and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
