RUUD, MELVIN 1924-2000
Inwood, IA - Melvin H. Ruud, 75 died of pneumonia friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at the Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital in Canton. He was born Aug. 8, 1924, on the family farm in rural Larchwood, Iowa. He was the son of Martin and Anna Sophia (Peterson) Ruud. He grew up and attended rural schools in the area. He farmed his entire life and was proud his farm was homesteaded for more than 100 years. He was involved with the Blood Run Massacre Site on his land. He later moved to Flandreau and Colman, then returned to Inwood. He was a member of Grandview Covenant Church in rural Larchwood.

Survivors include three nephews: Ron Ruud and his wife Mary of Colman, Alan Ruud and his wife Andrea of Worthing, and Russell Quist and his wife Teresa of Mitchell, SD; and two nieces: JoAnn Larsen and her husband Russell of Lousville, Colo., and Barbara Hemingway and her husband Cal of Mapleton, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Karl, Nels, Albert, Fred; and one sister, Hilda.

Services begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Covenant Church in rural Larchwood with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m.today at George Boom Funeral home with the family present from 7-8 p.m.
