Rosella “Rose” Eleanor (Menning) Jiskoot was born January 24, 1936, at Newkirk, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Ella (Mouw) Menning. She attended Newkirk Public School. After her father died she moved with her mother to Orange City, Iowa. She attended Orange City Public School and graduated from high school in 1953. She was united in marriage to Wilmer Jiskoot on April 23, 1954, and moved a farm southwest of George, Iowa where they raised three sons.

She was a hard working farm wife; helping out in any way she could to make the farm prosper. She always provided hearty meals for her husband and growing boys. Dessert was a must at the end of each meal. Rose cherished her family, she loved being with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a member of TOPS for 30 years, serving in many of the administrative offices throughout the years. She was also an active member in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. She was active in women’s group as president, vice-president, secretary/treasurer and group leader. She taught Sunday School and bible school for many years while her boys were growing up. After her boys grew up, she continue to play piano for Sunday School and Bible School. She played organ at the Sunday services for countless weddings and funerals for 35 years. She sang in the choir for many years and when the church got the hand bells she joined the hand bell choir. When her mother moved into the George Good Samaritan Center, she volunteered to play piano for their various chapels and hymn sings, and she continued to do so after her mother passed away. Along with music, her other passion was gardening, especially growing flowers. Her green thumb beautified our world.

She also enjoyed working with her husband on home improvement projects at her own home and at the homes of many others. She also enjoyed working at the Otter Valley Golf club with her husband and friends. In her spare time she chronicled her family’s activities from 1967 to 1991 and later shared those memories in a biweekly column in the local newspaper. She and her husband moved off the farm and into town in 1993, where she continued to live until May of 2007, when she moved to the George Good Samaritan Center.

These she leaves to cherish her memory are her husband, Wilmer of George, Iowa; three sons, Leland and his wife, Jackie Jiskoot of Boyden, Iowa; Arlan Jiskoot and David Jiskoot, both of Tulsa, Okalahoma; one granddaughter, Tara Jo Jiskoot of Urbandale, Iowa; one grandson, Justin Lee and his wife, Karissa Jiskoot of Marshal, Minnesota; on step granddaughter, Jessica Scott of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one great-granddaughter, Ella Jiskoot of Marshall, Minnesota, one sister, Geraldine “Gerry” and her husband Peter Aberson of Alton, Iowa along with many nieces and nephews.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, William and Ann Jiskoot; a cherished daughter-in-law, Nancy Jiskoot; and an infant niece, Jennifer Jiskoot.

Funeral services for Rose Jiskoot were held Wednesday, July 15, 2007 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa with burial the same day in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery west of town.
