Roy Van Maanen was born April 17, 1918 at Hull, Sioux county, Iowa, son of Ed and Maggie (Mulder) Van Maanen. Roy married Grace Scholten on August 26, 1937 at Hull, Iowa. Together they farmed near Doon, Iowa and later near Inwood, Iowa, both in Lyon county. They retired and moved to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1981. Grace died August 14, 1998.

Surviving relatives include two sons and their wives, Edwin and Audrey Van Maanen of Kersey, Colorado, Roger and Lori Van Maanen of Inwood, Iowa; five daughters and their husbands, Marcia and Gerry Van Ginkel of Sioux Fall, South Dakota, Garlene and John H. Van Veldhuizen of Doon, Iowa, Joy Van Maanen of Rock Valley, Iowa, Glenda and Robert Horstman of Inwood, Iowa, Julie and Frank Boyer of Hudson, South Dakota; four brothers and their wives, Bert and Bernice Van Maanen of Hull, Iowa, Tom and Gerdena Van Maanen of Hull, Iowa, Ed and Christine Van Maanen of Doon, Iowa, Harold and Lois Van Maanen of Hull, Iowa; four sisters; Ell Meendering of George, Iowa, Mina and her husband Ted Hoekstra of Hull, Iowa, Margaret of Hull, Iowa, Jane and her husband Henry Hoksbergen of Boyden, Iowa; twenty-seven grandchildren, grandsons are pallbearers, granddaughters are, Sherri, Shelli, Kathy, Amy, Gina, Elissa, Kim, Gwen, Becky, Jody, Jackie, Kelly, Heather and Robin; thirty-two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Roy Van Maanen were held on Friday, August 13, 1999 at First Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley, Iowa with interment in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.

VAN MAANEN, Roy 1918-1999

Roy Van Maanen, 81, of Rock Valley died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley, Sioux county, Iowa. Services were Friday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley, with interment in Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Van Maanen was born April 17, 1918, at Hull, Sioux county, Iowa, the son of Ed and Maggie (Mulder) Van Maanen. On Aug. 26, 1937, he married Grace Scholten at Hull. They farmed near Doon and Inwood, both in Lyon county, Iowa. In 1981, they retired and moved to Rock Valley. His wife died Aug.14,1998.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin of Kersey, Colorado., and Roger of Inwood; five daughters, Mrs. Gerry (Marcia) Van Ginkel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mrs. John H. (Garlene) Van Veldhuizen of Doon, Joy Van Maanen of Rock Valley, Mrs. Robert (Glenda) Horstman of Inwood and Mrs. Frank (Julie) Boyer of Hudson, South Dakota; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bert, Tom and Harold, all of Hull, and Ed of Doon, and four sisters, Ella Meendering of George, Lyon county, Iowa, Mrs. Ted (Mina) Hoekstra and Margaret Hoekstra, both of Hull, and Mrs. Henry (Jane) Hoksbergen of Boyden, Sioux county, Iowa.
