Russel Palmer Huisman was born June 23, 1933 on the family farm in Lyon county, Iowa, near Rock Rapids, the son of Klaas W. and Anna Huisman. He graduated from Ellsworth High School, Ellsworth, Minnesota in 1951. On September 11, 1982, Russel was united in marriage to Judy Bergman at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa. Russel and Judy farmed his family’s farm where he was born and raised.

He was a member of Bethel Reformed Church, rural Ellsworth, Minnesota, where he served as a Sunday School officer, Deacon and Elder. Russel loved fast pitch softball – he was an avid player, manager and coach. He also enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye sports, camping, and especially attending his son Kendall’s activities.

On Wednesday, April 25, 2007, Russel died at the Good Samaritan Center in George, Iowa, at the age of seventy-three.

Russel is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Judy Huisman of Rock Rapids, Iowa; son Kendall Huisman of Orange City, Iowa, where he attends Northwestern College; four siblings, Bernice Walters of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Anita *husband Virgil) Wiertzema of Worthington, Minnesota, Gerald (Karen) Huisman of Ellsworth, Minnesota and Lorraine (Husband Arnold) Baron of Visalia, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Klaas and Anna; two sisters, Pearl Huisman and Gladys Fiihr and five brothers, George, Weert, Fred, Art and Clifford Huisman.

Funeral services for Russel P. Huisman were held April 28, 2007 at Bethel Reformed Church of rural Ellsworth, Minnesota with burial in the church cemetery the same day.
