Ruth Grace (Kenny) Brown, 80, of George, Lyon county, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died Monday, October 16, 2000 at the George Good Samaritan Center.

Memorial services were held Friday, October 20, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City the same day.

Ruth was born April 2, 1920 in Sioux City, the daughter of Ernest A. and Florence C. (Moline) Kenny, Sr.. She was raised in Sioux City, where she graduated from East High School.

She married Cecil Merle “Brownie” Brown, Sr., on July 27, 1939, in Sioux City. The couple entered missionary training with New Tribes Mission and served in the flight program in Paraguay, South America, for 29 years.

Following their retirement from the mission field, they joined the staff of Tribal Air/Communications in Grant, Nebraska, before moving to Orange City, Iowa, where they worked with the “Angel” airplane project with King’s Engineering Fellowship.

In July 1995 Merle and Ruth moved to a retirement apartment in Sioux City. Ruth entered the George Good Samaritan Center in February 1988.

Mrs. Brown was affiliated with the Billy Sunday Memorial Tabernacle of Sioux City, Dover Alliance Church of Orange City, and Tabernacle Baptist Church of George.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, C. Merle Jr. “Moby” and Arlis Brown of George, Douglas and Rachel Brown of Dallas, Oregon, and Dwight and Diana Brown of Sioux City; four daughters, Barbara Mill of Bremerton, Washington, Gina and her husband Truett Slaughter of Corpus Christi, Texas, Janet and her husband David Waters of Victoria, Texas and Lois and her husband Rocky Lambert of the Dalles, Oregon; three sisters, Dorothy Hicks of Salix, Iowa, Marian and her husband Bill Lake of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Peggy and her husband Phil Edwards of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Ernest A. Kenny, Jr.; and infant daughter, Ruthie.
