Martha M. Harms was born March 4, 1915 near George, Lyon county, Iowa. She was the daughter of Klaas and Lena (Hassebrook) Klingenborg. She grew up on a farm northeast of George and attended country school.

Martha married Herman Harms on September 7, 1933 at the Zoar Presbyterian Church east of George. They farmed near George until retiring to town. She was a member of the Hope Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School, was custodian for the church, and was an active member of the Women's group in her younger years. She loved being involved in the lives of her family.

The last two months she was a resident of the George Good Samaritan Center, where she died on Tuesday, March 5, 1996 at the age of 81 years, 1 day.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Herman of George, Iowa; one son, Herman and wife Carol Harms of Sherwood, Arkansas; and six daughters: Marlys Duin and husband Edwin of George, Iowa; Elaine Riggleman and husband Kenneth of Columbus, Ohio; Lois Jurrens and husband Gordon of George, Iowa; Clarice Jurrens and husband Arnold of Lakeport, California; Gertrude Gonzales and husband Mike of Anderson, Texas; and Mary Hock and husband Seth of Columbus, Ohio. Also left to cherish her memories are 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four brothers; Klaas Jr., Willys, Roy Klingenberg all of George, Iowa and Glenn Klingenberg of Adrian, Minnesota; and two sisters, Nancy, Mrs. Ekke Timmer and Mabel, Mrs. Herman Voss both of Sheldon, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 8, 1996 Hope Reformed Church, rural George, Iowa with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery west of George, Iowa
