After several weeks of serious and painful illness, death came to the relief of John A. Iverson, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Sneve, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Friday, April 10, 1942 at 8:30 p.m.

Friends and neighbors had noticed that Mr. Iverson was failing in health during the past few months, but had little idea that the end was so near.

The body was brought back to Inwood, Lyon county, Iowa Sunday afternoon for the last rites and interment here.. Funeral services were at the home and a half hour later in Bethel Methodist church on Monday, April 13, 1942. Pastor V. K. Williams officiated at both services.

Bearers were W. J. Stearns, Ferd Hasche, Jos. Hanson, G. A. Anderson, Sherman Iverson and Henry Iverson. Interment was in the family plot in Richland cemetery.

Mrs. A. P. Stewart and Mrs. John Bahnson sang at the church and were accompanied by Mrs. Robert Brown.

John A. Iverson was a man of high ideals and a rigid schedule of morality and personal conduct. Honesty and integrity were paramount virtues with him. He measured himself with the same yard stick with which he measured to conduct of his fellow men. He had very strong convictions and was fearless in his utterance of the truth as he saw it. Friend and acquaintances always knew just where to find him and knew his views on any matter of public policy. He was a life-long Republican and a very great admirer of Ex-President Herbert L. Hoover to whom he wrote in recent months and he greatly prized the reply he received from Mr. Hoover.

He was a great home lover and spend much of his earnings on his home and family to house them well and provide comforts and educational advantages.

John Albert Iverson was born near Livingston, Wisconsin on September 1, 1864 and passed from this life at the home of a daughter in Sioux Falls on April 10, 1942, having attainted an earthly age of 77 years, 7 months and 9 days.

When a young man in his teens he moved to take up work near Clear Lake, Iowa near which he resided for several years. In 1889 he was united in the bonds of marriage to Miss Helen Halverson at Mason City, Iowa. To this union five daughters were born: Hazel, Maybel, Alta, Ella and Helen.

Mr. Iverson moved his family in 1900 to a farm three miles east of Inwood, Lyon county, Iowa, then in 1902 to the town of Inwood and to the home where Mr. and Mrs. Iverson have since resided. Mrs. Iverson then up the livestock shopping business in Inwood.

He was preceded in death by the daughter, Hazel (Mrs. Harris) of Des Moines, Iowa in 1924. He is survived by his widow, his other four daughters; Mrs. A. E. Sneve of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Alta of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Sam Sorenson of Sisseton, South Dakota, and Mrs. C. O. Fredricks of Harrisburg, South Dakota. Also by nine grandchildren.

Mr. Iverson was not afraid of public opinion in his workings for better morals and citizenship. The Lord needs more like him in such efforts. He was a Christian at heart and believed very much in his Lord and His power to save. His last words were, “Lord, I’m coming.”
