SEVERSON, LARS O. - 1868 - 1944
Lars O. Severson, resident of Larchwood, Iowa and Valley Springs, South Dakota vicinities died at the age of 76. Mr. Severson was a county commissioner of Lyon county, Iowa, for 15 years. He had retired from farming and moved first to Larchwood and then to Valley Springs. Surviving are his widow, four sons, five daughters, five brothers, and two sisters. Burial was at Larchwood.

Lars O. Severson, 76, pioneer farmer in the vicinity of Valley Springs, South Dakota, and Lyon County, Iowa, died early today at his home in Valley Springs where he recently had lived in retirement.

He was born on January 3, 1868, in Hardanger, Norway, and came to the United States in 1885, and worked as a farm hand a number of years in the Valley Springs area. In 1891 he purchased a farm in Lyon County which he developed and built into a modern farm.

Active in forward movements and community betterment, Mr. Severson had served 15 years as a commissioner of Lyon County. He was married to Julia Anderson on December 21, 1889, at Sioux Falls, and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary five years ago.

Upon retiring from farming activities, he moved to Larchwood, Iowa, a year ago later purchasing a home in Valley Springs. He had been in poor health the last two years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Survivors are the widow, four sons, Elmer, Hettinger, North Dakota; Stenno and Arthur, both of Valley Springs; and Lester, Mankato, Minnesota; five daughters, Mrs. John Thompson, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Nels Ugland, Brandon, South Dakota; Mrs. G.A. Lines, Minneapolis; Mrs. Ralph Kemis, Spencer, Iowa and Myrtle, Sioux Falls; five brothers, Severt, route 4; O. B. Hettinger, North Dakota; J.B., Valley Springs; John, Rapid City, and Thrond, in Norway; and two sisters, Segri and Martina, both in Norway. Four brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2:15 p.m. Monday at the Miller funeral chapel, Rev john Mason, Brandon, officiating. Burial will be at Larchwood, Iowa.
