(Lyon County News)

Funeral services were held from the Stubbe home and from the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Lyon county, Iowa on June 24, 1950 for Mrs. John F. (Grace) Stubbe.

Mrs. John F. Stubbe, nee Grace Gruis, was born in the Netherlands on July 22m 1891, the sixth child in a family of eight children. The sacrament of baptism was administered in 1892 in the Reformed church there.

In 1893 her parents left their native country, coming to the United States, finding their first home in Stevenson county, Illinois, near the city of Freeport, where she spent her childhood days.

She was educated in the rural school and attended the Reformed church near German Valley, Illinois.

In the spring of 1910, she came to Lyon county, Iowa. Her parents settled on a farm northeast of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

In Illinois he made the acquaintance of John F. Stubbe, to whom she was united in marriage on February 14, 1917. They took up their home on a farm two miles east of George, taking to farming. They resided on that farm for seventeen years, after which they settled on a farm three miles north of Matlock, in Sioux county, Iowa. She took her place in the home and at times found time to assist with certain activities on the farm.

She was blessed with a strong body and enjoyed very good health. However, in 1919, she had to submit to surgery, having appendicitis. She fully recovered from that ordeal and enjoyed further years of good health.

About three years ago, she noticed her nervous system was being affected, some time later her heart gave her trouble. She sought medical advice and was given treatments. Her system at first responded, but not for long. She again was given certain tests and the diagnosis indicated she had a goiter. The treatments proved of little or no benefit to her. She was taken to Rochester, Minnesota on June 4 of this year and entered the Kohler hospital, where, in spite of special treatments and professional attention and care, she died on June 21, 1950 at 10:00 a. m. She had attained the age of 58 yrs, 10 mnths and 29 days.

Her parents, four brother and an only sister preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her departure, her devoted husband, John Stubbe; two brothers, Louis Gruis of Ridot, Illinois, and Henry Gruis of Pipestone, Minnesota. Besides these she leaves numerous other relatives and many friends.
