Theresa M. Schettler, age 70, of Sherman, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Sioux Valley hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral mass was held on Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Garretson, South Dakota, with burial in the church cemetery.

Theresa Scholten was born on Sept. 2, 1927, in Alvord, Lyon county, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alieda (Lens) Scholten. She grew up in the Larchwood area, attended school therre, and later worked as a house cleaner and baby-sitter.

On Sept. 3, 1946, she married Martin A. Schettler in Larchwood. They farmed in the Larchwood area until 1950 when they moved to Sherman. The farmed until 1982.

Survivors include her husband; one sone, Keith of Sherman; three daughters: Barbara Schnieder of Brandon, S.D., Beverly Johnson of Baltic, S.D., and Karen Peters of Parkston, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five brothers: Joe and Cletus both of Sioux Falls, S.D., John of Dell Rapids, S.D., George of Luverne, Minnesota, and Larry of Ivanhoe, Minn.; and six sisters: Dorothy Schettler and Ann Burkhard, both of Larchwood, Irene Soldatke and Rose Marie Carmen, both of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mary Lou Kearney of Primghar, and Veronica Tuschen of Salem, S.D.
