Edwin Kruse, age 82, of Hills, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. Services were held on Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hills, with interment in the church cemetery.

He was born on March 21, 1916, near Doon, Lyon county, Iowa, the son of John and Margharetha (Kappelmann) Kruse. He attended county school and farmed with his parents until World War II, when he enlisted in the army on Sept. 5, 1942. He served as a sergeant with the 387th Infantry in both the European and Pacific theaters. He was discharged honorably on February 15, 1946.

On September 25, 1948 he married Ruth Ahrendt in Inwood, Lyon county, Iowa. They farmed near Inwood until moving to a farm near Larchwood in 1950. In 1963 they moved to a farm near Hills. In 1973 they moved to Wauburn, Minnesota; where they owned and operated Kruse's Hide Away Resort. They retired in 1989 and returned to Hills.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Itasca West Recreation Association and the Pinochle Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth of Jackson, Minnesota, and Daniel of Rapid City, S.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Shirley) Sandeger of Hills, and Judy Kruse of Hilo, Hawaii; five grandchildren; three brothers: Herman, Melvin, and Donald, all of Inwood, and one sister, Elsie Johnson, of Rock Rapids.
