Funeral services for J. Harold Thomas, Sr., age 82, of Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa, were held on Saturday morning at Holy Name Catholic Church here. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He died on Thursday, November 19, 1981, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Thomas was born on August 14, 1899, in Alton, Kansas, to Frank and Mary (Considine) Thomas.

On June 8, 1921, he married Margaret Munford at Glen Elder, Kansas, and they lived in the state until 1926 when they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At that time he started working for the J.C. Penney company.

In January 1931 he was named manager of the J.C. Penny store in Rock Rapids and he worked there until his retirement in 1959. He then became an agent for the Prudential Insurance company. Following retirement from that position he became a special agent for Prudential in 1965.

Survivors include the widow; three sons, Dr. James H. Jr., Sibley, Iowa, Frank E., Fargo, North Dakota, and Father John M., St. Joe; two daughters, Margaret Milar, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mrs. Paul (Nancy) O'Bryan, Sioux City, Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Charlotte Russell, New Richmond, Wisconsin; and 25 other descendants.
