Friends here last week received word of the death of Carl W. Klein, who was born and grew up in this community. On April 19, 1981, Klein died at his home in Chicago, Illinois. Services were held on April 22 at the Episcopal church of Our Savbior in Chicago.

He was vice-president and secretary of the Samuel Bingham Co. He had worked in various capacities for the M.N. Rothschild family for 52 years.

Carl was th eson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Klein and was born on the farm two and one-half miles west of Rock Rapids. He attended country school and when the family moved to town shortly after the end of World War I Carl attended Rock Rapids High School, graduating in the class of 1925.

Klein attended Northwestern Univerity where he made a name for himself as a member of that school's football team. After graduation from Northwestern he joined the Rothschilds and worked for htem since that time.

Survivers include his widow, Florence Eve; four grandchildren; a stepson; a stepdaughter, three sisters; and a brother.
