James Tracy Passed Away

Old Father Time with his scythe has again called on this country to mourn the loss of another of its Civil War veterans. this time the scythe fell on James Tracy, a well known man of this vicinity. Mr. Tracy went to Hot Springs, Arkansas, in the fall taking treatment for his illness until the summons of death should call him forth last Saturday morning.

Mrs. H. Witte, his daughter was with him at the end and returned with his remains. Funeral services were conducted from St. Mary's Church with Rev. Fr. S.P. Roth presiding. Interment was made at the Larchwood Catholic Cemetery, beside his wife who preceded him in death several years ago.

James Tracy was well known here. Mr. Tracy was a stone mason and plasterer. Work that he has done for residents in this section will stand forever as the work done by James Tracy.

Mr. Tracy moved to South Dakota for a short time where he had file on and proved up a government claim, after which he returned to Larchwood.
Mr. Tracy was always a carefree happy man. He had numerous friends here that mourn his departure but we are God's children and must therefore return to Him.

All the children were present at the funeral.

As a mark of respect in the passing away of Mr. Tracy, another of the few Civil War veterans, the business places in town closed during the funeral hour and taps were sounded by local World War veterans.
Thus again is laid to rest a soldier the nation has learnt us to love.
