Who Was On Gold
Rush Dies; Age 93

Larchwood, Lyon county, Iowa., Feb. 21. --- Mrs. Josephine Webber, who at the age of 8 went with her parents to California in a covered wagon in the gold rush of 1849, is dead at the age of 93. She died Tuesday and funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday in the Community church here, with the Rev. T. H. Harding officiating.

Mrs. Webber came to Larchwood in 1889. She grew wonderful flowers in her garden and visitors from long distances were known to have visited her place on account of it’s beauty. Mrs. Webber recalled her experiences in the gold rush vividly.

She is survived by two sons, two daughters, 18 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.

BURIED AT LARCHWOOD
Larchwood, Lyon county, Iowa., Feb. 26. --- Glowing tributes to Josephine Webber, pioneer here, for her work with flowers in her garden, were paid at funeral services held Friday in the Community church. She had a garden which attracted interest for miles around.

Mrs. Webber, 93 years old, had resided here since 1889. She was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and when 8 years old went with her parents on the gold rush to California in a covered wagon.

She is survived by two sons: William, Sioux Falls, and Leon, Seattle; two daughters, Clara E. Holzer, Sioux Falls, and Josie E. Lundquist, Larchwood; and an 85 year old brother at Matton, Ill., and 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

~Note: The 1900 Census lists this Josephine, widowed, Larchwood, IA...with three of her children in the household. In 1900 Census she stated that her birth mo/year was March 1841.
