Raymond Clarence Klaassen, age 83, formerly of Ellsworth, Minnesota, died Sunday November 23, 2003 at the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne, Minnesota.

He was born on May 25, 1920 in George, Iowa, to John and Edith (Klaassen) Klaassen. Raymond attended school in George, and served his county in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He married Elloise Larson on October 16, 1947 at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa. After their marriage the couple made their home near Ellsworth, Minnesota, where they farmed. In 2001 they moved to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.

Raymond and Elloise were members of the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, where Raymond taught Sunday School and catechism for many years.

Raymond is survived by his six children and their spouses, Dorothy and Roger Sheperd of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; David and Margaret Klaassen of Marquette, Kansas; Daniel and Ann Klaassen of Marion, Iowa; Donald and Kathy Klaassen of Ellsworth; Jane and Frank Bernstein of Palo Alto, Calif.; and Joan Klaassen of Belmont, Calif.; by 21 grandchildren; by four brothers: Harmon Klaassen of Worthington, Minn.; Alfred (Lavonne) Klaassen of Ellsworth; John (Caroline) Klaassen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Ronald (Evelyn) Klaassen of California; and five sisters: Helen Sprock of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Ruth (Bert) Van Westen, Luverne, Minnesota; Alma DeBuhr, Rock Rapids; Lois Snitselaar, Livermore, Calif.; and Erma (Ubbe) Wagenaaar, Adrian, Minnesota.

Raymond was preceded in death by his paretns, by his wife Elloise; by his son-in-law, Russell Elliott; by two grandsons, Benjamin and Natheniel; by a brother, Paul; and by a sister, Esther Klinkenborg.

A funeral servce was held on November 28, 2003 at Salem Reformed Church, Little Rock, Iowa. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Little Rock. Dingman Funeral Home, Luverne, Minnesota was in charge of Arrangements.
