Funeral services for Peter Siebrands, 73, resident of this community since 1903, were held at the Siebrands home and at the Hope Reformed Church southwest of George, with Rev. Peter Koenen officiating, on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Siebrands, who was a well known successful farmer, had made his home in George after retiring from the farm. He had been in good health until a few years ago when his health began to fail. His condition became critical during the past winter and his death did not come as a surprise to members of his family. Suffering with internal cancer he passed away on Sunday.

Peter Siebrands was born in Neuwe Beerta, Groningen, Netherlands, May 6, 1864. During the spring of 1884 he came to America and made his home in the neighborhood of Freeport, Illinois. During the summer of the same year he married Wiena Modder. The family came to George in 1902 and settled on a farm in the vicinity of George.

On Sept. 8, 1907 the mother of the family was taken by death. Mr. Siebrands remained on the farm until 1916. He then moved to town where he spent the remainder of his life. In 1917 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Laper. They were privileged to live all these years in retirement. Finally Mr. Siebrands began to fail and during the winter months it became evident that he had become the victim of internal cancer. For many weeks he was confined to his bed, but in the graciousness of God he was spared of intense suffering unto the end. His church will especially remember him because he served his church as deacon for 17 years, faithfully and in his own way. On May 2, 1937 his earthly life ended, attaining the age of 72 years, 11 months and 26 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, his children, Dick, Harm and William, all of George, and Mrs. Frank Heeren of Northwood, N. Dak.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, two brothers and two grandchildren.
