Richard Eugene Siebrands was born on July 18, 1929 at rural George, Iowa, the son of Dick and Trena (Goldhorn) Siebrands. He attended country school in Liberal Township. On July 23, 1951 Richard was inducted into the U.S. Army. He spent 14 months in Korea serving on the front lines. For his service he was awarded several medals and awards.

On May 27, 1953 he received his honorable discharge from the Army. He farmed with his brother, Laurence on the Siebrands family farm, which was a centuryt farm, northwest of George. Richard enjoyed farming -- feeding cattle and hogs. His family will always remember him for his good heartedness, his smile on his fave and a cap on his heard, and his willingness to help others.

Richard became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Center In George, Iowa on June 4, 1999. On June 6, 2001 Richard died at the Good Samaritan Center at the age of seventy-one.

He is survived by his brother, Laurence Siebrands of George, three sisters, Margaret Krull of Beaver Creek, Minnesota, Leota (Jack) Gerken of George, and Lavonne (Alfred) Klaassen of Ellsworth, Minnesota.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Elvina Siebrands, one brother, Ben Siebrands, a sister-in-law, Irene Siebrands, a brother-in-law, Henry Krull, and two nephews, James Gerken and Murnice Popkes, and a great nephew, Merlyn Popkes.

Funeral services were held on June 9, 2001 at Hope Reformed Church of George, Iowa, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Interment was in Hope Reformed Cemtery, George, Iowa. Graveside Military honors were by Post 404 of the American Legion, George, Iowa.

The Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids was in charge of arrangements.

This past Wednesday evening, June 6, 2001, Richard died at the Good Samaritan Center in George at the age of seventy-one.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his brother, Laurence Siebrands of George, three sisters, Margaret Krull of Beaver Creek, MN, Leota (Jack) Gerken of George, and Lavonne (Alfred) Klaassen of Ellsworth, MN, along with his nieces and nephews.
