Ira Franklin Angstead, son of Irving and Mary (Maley/Mealey)Angstead was born February 11, 1879, in Fairfield, Iowa. He died at his home in Chariton, Iowa April 28, 1940 at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 17 days, of complications from Diabetic Shock.

He moved with his parents to Sioux Falls, SD when a small boy. He returned to Iowa at the age of fifteen and has lived in the vicinity of Fairfield and in Chariton since that time.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American War. He was married August 1, 1914 to Sarah Lou Edna Shupe and to this union seven children were born, five daughters and two sons.

He was a house painter and paper hanger by trade and was well known in the community.

Surviving are his wife, and their seven children; Iris (Raymond) Muffler, Irene (Skee) Williams, Don (Edith) Angstead, Gay (Louis) Steinbach, Fay (James) Twombley, at home; Mahlon B. Angstead, and Mary Jane Angstead; also five grandchildren and one sister, Golden "Goldie" (George) Dewey resides in California.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Harry Secor of the Baptist Chuch.

Arrangements made by Dunshee Funeral Home.

Burial in the Chariton Cemetery.
